Today, Tibetan rug weavers continue to explore designs never before seen in hand-woven rugs. That's why The Dabbieri Collection is proud to offer an extensive array of perfected hand-knotted Tibetan area rugs.
History
Tibetan rug weaving has a long and ancient past. At first creation, Tibetan rug designs showcased traditional cultural themes. Today, you'll find Tibetan rugs infused with cross-cultural themes from:
- Antique Western Fabrics
- Contemporary Western Fabrics
- African and Other Ethnic Textiles,
- Twentieth Century Designs (Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, Modernist)
- Contemporary Art
Technique
The Tibetan technique of knotting pile rugs is unique. In fact, Tibetan weavers are the only known weavers practicing the knotting technique. They've been able to perfect and master this art over centuries.
Value
Tibetan rugs vary in the density of knots. Density is the measure of approximate number of knots per square inch. Our rugs range in density from 60 knots to 150 knots per square inch.
Rugs of higher density take more time to weave, thus they are more valuable. However, this doesn't mean that rugs of lower density wear less well. It's more a matter of compatibility with designs. Simply put, detailed designs require high density knotting, but large-scale designs look best with lower density knotting.
